5 out of 5 stars Another Great Weber Accessory
James R. Holtan

As I'm sure is the case with most people, I bought these for indirect cooking -- you have great control of placement of briquettes when you're doing indirect cooking. When you're doing a turkey, you want to pile in the coals but insure they stay to the sides. For this, they work great. For me, the surprising part is what a great aid they are for direct cooking. By placing them next to each other, you can intensify the heat source and actually raise (as a result of stacking up the briquettes in these) the level of heat source closer to the grill. A great addition when you have something you want to sear at the start of the grilling process.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Purchase for Indirect Cooking and Smoking of foods

I received the Weber Char-Basket Charcoal Fuel Holders for my birthday recently. I used them first to slow cook 3 racks of baby back ribs "low and slow". I have cooked ribs many of times and used the indirect method but with the Weber Char-Basket Charcoal Fuel Holders it was so much easier to keep the charcoal in one area of the grill and to drop off chunks of wood for smoking. What impressed me the most was how easy it was to maintain the temperature at 190-200 degrees. Sounds crazy but it was much easier with the baskets.Last night I indirectly cooked 4 half chickens. Used the baskets again but didn't smoke the birds. After 60 minutes the birds were crisp and cooked to a perfect 180 degrees. I added my favorite bbq sauce on the chicken and moved the half chickens over the baskets to just crisp up the bottoms. My family loved the meal and I was very impressed again with how much easier it is to cook with theses baskets.I would recommend these to my entire fellow Weber charcoal grill friends. A small purchase with big results! Weber is the very best!

These baskets make indirect-heat grilling very easy. They fit perfectly on either side of the Weber kettle with a drip tray in the middle, making perfect grilling of longer cooking foods, such as roasts and large pieces of meat, nearly foolproof. These and my Weber chimney starter are the grill accessories I use most often.

3 out of 5 stars Better than a pair of bricks?
Kevin French

Probably not better than a pair of bricks. These don't hold very much charcoal, and when full, the charcoal sits just under the cooking grates. If you want to sear before or after you indirect cook, then you have to really be there to watch it as the coals are so very close.A pair of bricks will section off the charcoal better, giving you more room (and you can adjust the spacing from the wall) to drop coals, without them piling up so high.

5 out of 5 stars The Pinnacle of Convenience!

These are some of the simplest yet most useful Weber accessories I own! They make everything easier, from lighting your charcoal to controlling how the heat in your grill is applied to your food for cooking.I have a Weber kettle grill (charcoal) with a gas ignition system, and all I have to do is place the desired amount of charcoal in each basket (or in one if that's all I'm using that day), position the baskets over the gas igniter outlet in the center of the grill, and wait a few minutes (about 5). By then the coals are pretty well lit and I can kill the gas, and in a few minutes more, they're ashy and ready to use. Then it's just a matter of repositioning them where I want them for cooking, whether in the center for direct heat or on the sides for indirect heat, and well I wish it were more complicated because I like making people read long reviews, but that's it lol. It's that simple! If you cook over charcoal, you'll love these, in fact you'll probably conclude that they're worth twice as much for the convenience they bring to the cooking process. I hope some of you find my review helpful in making a more informed decision as you consider your buying options! Peace :-)

Though I really didn't need this to create indirect heating, organizing the fire is pretty easy. I like being able to shake the ashes (cold, of course) into my ash can. The design makes it easy to dump the contents (partial to completely full) of the chimney starter into the baskets. Two things to improve the product:1. Make one SLIGHTLY smaller so they nest in each other better2. Not have sharp edges.

The perfect answer for indirect cooking, no more coals rolling wherever they want. Use in conjuction with the hinged grill. This certainly make more sense than having to remove the entire grill. Coal baskets are large enough to hold plenty of coals and are vented to keep them hot while cooking.

Have one of the larger weber charcoal grills and these baskets really help me maintain a constant cook temperature each time I grill. Has really helped me be able to multi-task vice constantly baby sitting whatever I'm grilling. Also makes for two good spots for direct grilling and a great strip down the middle for indirect. Have pushed them both together as well for a bunch of hamburgers and hotdogs. Worth every penny.
