5 out of 5 stars Great double laundry sorter!

I have been looking for several months for a double laundry sorter that had a lid on it with no luck. I found this one and was thrilled - not only by the way it looked online but buy the price. When it arrived I wasn't disappointed. It is collapsible but I don't think that is a feature that will matter much to us. A great feature is that the lid has magnets in it to help keep it on more securely. It did have a funny smell when it arrived but I figured that had something to do with whatever warehouse it was previously kept in and after some febreeze the smell is gone. I am very happy with this product!

They described this as having a "rich dark coffee color." I'd say that's true if you take your coffee with cream in it. There's nothing rich or dark or even coffee-ish about this color at all. They should've just said this hamper is brown and be done with it, marketing be damned. Why can't it ever be that simple? It stank when I took this out of the box. I think it's been in storage too long and the fabric needs to be febreezed and aired out a bit. At least I hope so, otherwise, I'll need to return it.But, other than that, the hamper is pretty large. I do believe it will be able to hold 3, maybe even 4 loads of laundry. It does seem sturdy and I do like that you can fold it down so I can neatly store it away in case I need to hide it. Not too fond of the magnetic lid, but I'd chose that over velcro any day.Update Sept 23, 2011: The smell was unbearable. No matter what I did, it would not go away, and it started to make my clothes and my bedroom stink! I had to return it, which was a real shame because there aren't a whole lot of choices out there for a double sorter at this price range.

4 out of 5 stars No "odor" present, bottom slightly cheaply made, but looks good.

Just got this a few minutes ago, and was expecting some kind of assembly, but I am completely wrong. This folds out into what is almost like a cardboard box (made with fabric, and something sturdy under the fabric). It has a thin layer under where the clothes are, and a zipper that holds each partition together. The under layer/stitching that holds everything on the bottom are a bit fragile, so I would not suggest filling this up and attempting to carry it anywhere or unzipping to dump the clothes. This may be what it was initially intended for, however if this is attempted, I can almost universally guarantee that it will rip after a few short empties.I was concerned as I was looking up other boxes/more expensive options, and decided to go with this one as it seemed it was big enough but not too big, not too small, and esthetically appealing. It is a lighter brown than the picture looks, but it's not a 'bad' color per say.The smell others were stating existing is literally non-existant with this unit. I had a few silicon packages fall out when taking it apart, so maybe the addition of this now prevents this odor from occurring? I don't know, but even when I was attempting to zip the bottom and pretty close to the product, no noxious smell was detected. I'm a pretty sensitive person to smells, also, and by profession I'm trained to pay close attention to details such as sight & smell, so this is not a problem if this was something you're concerned with. The lid has magnetic closures, which I like. I'm happy that it's not permanently attached to the unit, but also glad it does have something to center the lid a bit so it keeps the "good looks" portion intact.Go ahead and buy it!Read more ›

I dont know what it is made of...but this hamper has a very strong odor to it. It makes my entire bathroom reak of whatever it is made of, which isnt a very pleasant smell! I almost got rid of it for the smell. It is slowly dulling away, but I noticed the smell immediately upon unpacking it. Too bad for the odor it remits because as far as looks and the space for laundry its a wonderful hamper. As long as you can stand the stink of it for a few months.

The structure and color of this hamper is very nice. The odor is NOT. At first, I didn't smell anything when I took it out of the box. But after leaving it in my bathroom for a day or two, my bathroom reeked. I even fabrized the heck out of it beforehand, but no luck. It is now sitting outside in my backyard in the sunlight - I'm hoping the UV rays help eliminate whatever is causing that smell. My next plan is to buy odor absobers and just stick two of them inside of this stinky hamper. I will be sure to update about what becomes of this vile-smelling laundry basket!Update, March 13th: So, leaving it on my patio to air out did nothing. The outside air and sun did nothing to alleviate the odor coming from inside the laundry bin. I ended up buying two Oder Absorbers and just sticking them inside the two compartments. Now, my bathroom doesn't stink (as long as I keep the lid closed) and my clothes get washed anyway. The odor absorbers to their job and suck up all the bad smell - as soon as I remove them however, the smell returns. I will probably just keep them in there until - hopefully - the smell eventually disappears. For anyone who is interested in this solution: You can get odor absorbers at most grocery stores and Bed Bath and Beyond; they usually sell in two packs for $6-$10. Good luck!
